Legs continued...again

Back to the legs.

You will need the leg straps you made before and this piece (you need 2 of them) and you need to cut slits where I marked on the pattern...

...

Where you have sewn the strips together at the top of you thigh is where this piece needs to go. The cross should be in the centre of the piece then sew it.

However! Only sew in the shaded areas shown below, as if you sew in other areas the stitching will be visible but if you sew only in the shaded areas then you wont see the stitching as they are going to be covered and it will look much smoother.

Once that is done we can make the straps that wrap around your legs.
Cut another strip of 140cm x 2cm.

Sew a buckle onto the end (Using the first method that we used for the top part of the harness) and thread the other end through the piece on these of your leg and then the buckle and pull until tight. Cut a hole for the spike and cut off the excess fabric, then use the leftover fabric to repeat the step another 3 times as you need 2 per leg, a total of 4!

The same steps for both legs! Comment any questions.

Motivational Post... type thing.....

Phew ok this is intense!
I'm on a roll tonight and I still have to finish my own cosplay!!!!! Don't worry though I said I would have this done for you guys and I will!

No joke we are insanely close to finishing!!! I believe in you guys! :)

Harness top part 2

Next!!!
Grab the pieces that are coming across your chest. You should still have the full length of strip.
these will need to come down, behind and cross over your back.

For now simply pull it behind you and towards the hip on the opposite side. pin it if you can.
Where the strip crosses the strip coming over the front (should be somewhere under your arms) you need to mark and sew them together..

Now you need to take this piece (you should have two of them)....

And and place them on your back, with a distance of about 3cm between them. They should face the same way as your main piece of back harness so if the brown is out then they should have the brown facing out etc
Where the strips cross should be in between the two. If it doesnt feel right feel free to move it up and down, you are the one who has to wear it! BUT it shouldn't touch your belt, or the top part of the harness! it should be somewhere between the two.
Once you have decided on the place pin them to the strips to keep their place.
Then take off the harness and sew them to the strip. It should be touching them in some places and its just a very simple stitch to keep them in place.

Cut two small strips to put between them ands sew on to them.

It should look a little some thing like this!
Comment any questions or anything as usual! :)

Top part of the harness! part 1

Hopefully you have cut out the pieces from the previous post!

In this post we are gonna start with the big back piece.

Choose which way you want it to face, you can either have the leathery side facing out or in I chose to have the white side out and then paint it grey to match the pictures that I had! But it is entirely up to you at the end of the day it is your harness and you have to wear it.

Cut out 2 strips of 140cm x 2cm (this is just for now you will need more as we go on)

You need to mark where the leatherette strips will come through the harness as you can see in the picture it crosses over the back of the harness.
One strip should go over each shoulder, and cross over at the back to go under your arms.

The strips that come over the front of the harness need to be sewn so they have a loop in the end as you can see in the picture at the end, it has to be at least 2 cm wide so that another strip can go through.

You will need to cut 2 more strips.

They need to go through the loops on the front by your shoulders. They need to cross over your chest. Now we are going to sew our first belt buckle! ahhhhhh (make sure its through the loop before you sew as once its in you cant fit it back out through the hole.)
Push the buckle onto the strip of leatherette so that it is sticking up. The spike should push against the leatherette.

Then where its sticking up, cut a very small hole and push the spike through.

Then the bit thats folded over you need to sew together.
Put it back on, make a hole in the other strip and do it up like a normal belt. The centralise it and pin it to the straps coming over the shoulders to keep it all in place.

Next part ...
Pull the strips that come from the lower back part of the harness diagonally forward. So that they come between your hipbones. (If I were you I would put on the belt you are planning to use for the cosplay about now)
They should pull forward to just before the first loop of your trousers.
Now for the second way we do belt buckles and guess what NO SEWING!

Keep the harness on! its pretty easy!
Cut a small hole in the middle of the strip of leatherette were it first meets your belt.

Slide the buckle onto the strip of leatherette so the leatherette goes over, under, over. With the spike sticking in towards the material. Until the spike goes through the hole.

Pull the leatherette over and then back under the belt. Push it through the buckle and cut a hole for the spike. DONE!

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Harness Pieces!!! :)

The next part is making the extra part of the harness is basically making the extras that are attached to the harness there are 4 different parts that need to be made.

The difficult part was getting the measurements right before drawing up the patterns but luckily for for I have all the measurements sorted, all you have to do is draw it out for yourself! (Although you may find you want to adjust the height or width of the back piece.
What I find is best is to draw them out on paper so you have a permanent pattern you should, using a pen or pencil, be able to draw the pattern straight out onto the fabric side of your leatherette. If you can't read my hand writing or there is something you don't understand in the pictures, comment below.

With this piece the strips should incoroprate the width and length of the belt you intend to use. As this attaches to your belt.
This is the piece of the back harness, this is only half of what it should look like as I couldn't fit the while thing on the paper (size A3) so what you need to do is draw out this as then just flip it over so the 10.5cm lines meet and draw it out again simple!

Legs part 2

Part 2 of the legs part of the AOT harness! :)
If you find any bit complicated or confusing then just comment and I will try and explain it a different way or put up more photos.

Take the part of the leg we made in the previous step and put it on your leg.

The part that crosses over into the inside your leg you need to adjust. On the inside of your leg next to your knee cap there should be a bony bit, the strap needs to touch that. (Where the two strips cross should still be on your shin)
As well as this the part on the outside of you leg there should be another bony bit next to your knee cap. The outside strap should come up in line with that. (see pictures) (If it moves from position don't worry, when your sew it then it should stay.)

Then you need to Cut two strips of 140cm long and 2cm wide leatherette. You only need one for now.
The bony bit on the inside of you leg is where the end of the new strip of leatherette and the other part of the harness should meet. It should be at a diagonal line above your knee cap. The new strip should be sewn behind the first part of the harness (You don't have to it just looks better) (see pictures)
Then take the second strip so that it meets on the bony part of the outside of your leg, sew the second strip to the outside part of the harness at an angle so it crosses over the other strip of leatherette to form a little frame around your knee.  Again mark and sew the outside. ONLY SEW THE OUTER PARTS DO NOT SEW WHERE THEY CROSS OVER YET!

When you have sewn the strips, lay it out on the floor and you should have three long strips, the two longest ones should be on the outside  and the shortest in the middle, then put it back on your leg.

The strip at the back of you leg (the bit from part one) needs to meet the new strip of leatherette that comes from the inside of your leg. They should meet on the side of your thigh in line with the seam of your trousers.
(If when you are trying to get the angles right the strip on the outside of your leg is annoying, just  pull it across your front tightly and tuck it into you trouser pocket to keep it out the way.)

If the back strip at the back doesn't lie flat it doesn't matter (always see if you can adjust it till its flat if not don't worry, you can always re-sew parts, and if your boots are long you wont really see it!)

Once all the parts described above meet how you want them too, mark their positions with a pen on both parts of the strip that meet. Then take it off your leg and sew however you want as long as they keep their place (again I did a back stitch) and cut off the excess on the cross over at the font LEAVE THE STRIPS ON THE SIDE ALONE OR I WILL CRY!

Put it back on you leg, as you get more strips and stuff it will look cooler but gets harder to put on! I find laying it out on the floor and kinda sliding into works best.

The steps are the same for both legs! :)

Please feel free to ask any questions!!! :)
